Director, Artist, Scenographer
Victoria Juemei Gong
Biography

Victoria Juemei Gong (b. China) is a London-based director and moving image artist working across video, film, and installation. Her practice constructs liminal, immersive environments in which bodies and materials are suspended, fragmented, and transformed within technologically mediated space.

Central to her work are questions of hybrid identity and corporeal transformation: how bodies mutate, resist classification, and persist in altered states, alongside an investigation into how digital images function as systems of capture, storage, and control.

Moving image, in her practice, operates simultaneously as an apparatus that abstracts and contains the body and as a space in which that containment becomes unstable. Her work draws on expressionism and occult visual traditions to engage symbolic languages of inscription and ritual, positioning preservation itself as an ambivalent act, one that fixes and distorts in equal measure. Through layered visual and sonic compositions, she examines the tensions between fixation and transformation, asking how images mediate memory, materiality, and power, and where the possibility of resistance might live within those structures.
